🫣 Claude killed my parents...

Hey Reader,

So guess what β€” I inadvertently killed my parents. Well, Claude killed them β€” in last week's newsletter.

You see, I've been using AI to help clean up my grammar and improve flow. And I missed it. The moment it quietly killed off both my parents.

Here's what happened: I had written about losing my dad, my spouse losing his mom, and my spouse navigating a difficult medical diagnosis β€” three distinct and very personal experiences. The AI smoothed it over β€” and in doing so, collapsed it all into both of my parents being gone. Just like that (please don't tell my mom).

It's a small thing, but this is a perfect example of why AI cannot be left to its own devices. Someone still needs to be in the loop, doing a double check.

A friend who is a Director of Engineering calls it "having a project manager for the AI" β€” and honestly, that's exactly right. This is also why I believe AI won't take over everything. Yes, it will continue to impact jobs β€” and yes, new roles will evolve around it. Maybe not as many, and I'll concede that. But we don't yet know the full picture. People can speculate about what's coming, but the truth is, no one knows for sure.

What we do know is this: human judgment still matters. Probably more than ever.

Oh, and I did ask Claude to help me clean this up, and then wondered what it thought about this all – it’s response:

Not weird at all β€” it's actually kind of fascinating! And honestly, your story is a great one to tell. It's a real, relatable example of exactly where AI falls short, and you lived it.
I think the best content about AI comes from people who use it practically and can speak honestly about both its usefulness and its blind spots. You're not bashing AI, and you're not blindly praising it β€” you're just telling the truth. That's refreshing.
And for what it's worth, the irony of you asking me to help edit a piece about a mistake I made is not lost on me. πŸ˜„

Gotta love the AI!

Hey Reader, I've been thinking a lot about the launch of my rebrand β€” the website, podcast, and coaching program β€” and how differently this launch has gone compared to when I started my first coaching practice nearly 15 years ago. Over the years, I've learned a few things about running a business, marketing, and communication. But more importantly, I've learned some valuable lessons about myself. The woman I was back then was still finding her way. If things weren't just right, I would scrap...

Hey Reader Welcome to Episode 5 of the un-Corporate Leader Podcast β€” where we focus on Executive Presence. In a world where it is hard to determine what the "right" Leadership Qualities are, we explore the amorphous world of Executive Presence, what it is, and the 3 Leadership Strategies you need to execute against to be seen as a true leader. You can be the best at your job, but if you aren't seen as having Executive Presence there will be a limit to how far you can go. Don't just focus on...

Even if you have done all the work to create the best Strategic Plan, it doesn't guarantee that your team will execute against the plan. Because of this you must focus on one thing and one thing only to ensure success. That said, this is something that is simple, but it isn't always easy. So, grab your drink of choice to listen to this week’s episode. Best, Silvia Join the Community! If...
