Clarity Isn't What You Said. It's What They Heard.

Hello Reader,

One week in and we are 240 downloads and counting. I love seeing the reviews and hearing about the impact that the un-Corporate Leader podcast is having.

This is my favorite new leadership podcast! The conversations are relevant, engaging and full of takeaways that can be applied in real-world leadership and HR situations. Highly recommend for anyone who cares about building strong teams and leading with intention.

No one ever said this was going to be easy, but it sure is fun.

Week in Review

This week I released EP8: You Don't Have a Talent Problem (Yet) — and I'm already deep into EP9, which tackles a topic that gets a lot of leaders into trouble: Culture Fit.

The notion of culture fit is one that can land teams and organizations in hot water when it isn't grounded in something concrete. When left undefined, it becomes a gut-feel excuse — "I just don't think they'll fit" — and at that point, you're not doing your best work as a leader.

Here's why: if you can't define it, you can't hold anyone accountable to it. And contrary to what some leaders seem to expect, employees are not mind readers. Don't make them guess what you actually mean.

Start building that foundation with EP8 — and tune in Monday for EP9, where we dig into this important topic head on.

Hello Reader, This week I onboarded a new client — a part-time interim engagement — and I'm loving it. There's nothing quite like stepping into an organization in the middle of change. Some leaders find it daunting. Others prefer a clean slate. But I'm energized by the potential that lives inside chaos — or just on the other side of it. When I think about change, an organization in transition is full of possibility. Getting to help set direction, shape people strategy, and align systems,...

Hey Reader, Episode 9 of the un-Corporate Leader Podcast has dropped — where this week we tackle one of the most misused phrases in leadership: Culture Fit. You know what it's like — something feels off with a team member, and you can't quite put your finger on it. So you call it a culture fit issue. But if that's all you've got, that's a problem — and a legal and bias risk you don't want to ignore. Handled correctly though, culture fit is one of the most powerful tools you have as a leader....

Hey Reader Welcome to Episode 8 of the un-Corporate Leader Podcast — where this week we tackle one of the most common frustrations I hear from leaders: What do I do when I have a talent problem? You know what it's like — someone on your team isn't delivering, and you're already mentally drafting the corrective action plan. But what if the issue isn't them? What if the real gap is clarity — and it starts with you? In this week's episode, we'll cover: Why focusing on talent too soon can...
